Since the 1600s, Surry's economy has been largely based on the "other white meat," Pork. Through the years the property has been called by different names, but seemingly became "Eastover" at the time Eastover and Westover were owned by two brothers. Eastover was purchased in 1972 by the Peninsula Baptist Association when it became a place for year-round Christian camps, retreats, and conferences.
